SR&DT Workshop 20 October 2014
Student research in Indonesian small island developments, which are members of the Student Research and Development Team (SR & DT) has reached the final session. The SR & DT Workshop was held on Monday, October 20th, 2014 at the ITS Rectorat Building. The purposes of this workshop is to present the final research for Indonesian small island development in Maratua (Berau, East Kalimantan) and Poteran Island (Sumenep, East Java). In this opportunity, the team presented the final results of the research that has been conducted for five months.
Preceded by the opening of the seminar Prof. Darminto as ITS Vice Rector and also Chairman of the Research Institute. Furthermore, the presentation of the progress of SIDI activities by Prof. Norbert Gruenwald from the Wismar University, Germany. The next agenda is the presentation of research final result of each island were preceded by Arida Wahyu represents Poteran team and followed by presentation Maratua represented by Andre Prakoso. Small island development has a different focus, Poteran island will focus on the agricultural sector with the potential of Moringa oleifera and seaweed, then Maratua island focus on the development of tourist-based energy (eco-tourism) island.
In addition to presenting the final results, both of teams also carry products from each study as a prototype of this study. An example is Poteran team provide some food like cake from Moringa leaf powder and Maratua team providing prototype form coral reef transplantation and wind power turbines that will be applied as an alternative energy in the island.
The participants in this seminar come from ITS, Wismar University (Germany), Students and Business Partners also all of stakehold of the Small Island Development Initiatives (SIDI). The seminar is expected to be the first level to apply the research as Indonesian small island developments.
SR&DT 2014 Testimonials
Maratua Team
Nadia Sanggra Puspita - Chemical Engineering 2009 (Maratua team leader) As a Project leader of SR&DT Maratua team, I learn to manage people from diversity education background which is very challenging. I learn to shape a bunch of ideas into one integrated tourism scenario since each of us has brought a special issue for Maratua sustainable plan. SIDI really helps me to improve my analytical thinking on how to think like a researcher and investor in the same time, which I have to think both deeply in research and futuristic way. This program gives me opportunity to get mentorship with expert in its field, working professionally with global mindset and standard. I also get heartfully friendship through SIDI, and we have decided to make a new platform for realizing our ideas. SIDI isn’t just like a program, it’s like home. |
Andre Prakoso - Ocean Engineering 2011 SR&DT is a marvelous program specifically designed to create a super-team. Here, you'll have an amazing experience working with professional people (Wismar and ITS Mentor), Local government, NGO's and the People itself. You'll never be the same once you completed this program wholeheartedly! It's like the old saying, "There's no such thing as a superman, there can only be a superteam..." |
Dendy Satrio - Energy Generation System Engineering, PENS 2011 In this program I submitted a proposal about wind turbine. After a visit to Maratua, we must prepare a report in accordance with the proposed individual research and report as a team. SR&DT program is very different from other programs because we really guided and directed in preparing a good report. And it is a valuable experience to be able to see directly the actual condition of the small island of Indonesia, and to be able to be a team that involved in helping resolve the problem in this country. |
Frenky Cahya Nugraha - Naval Architecture 2010 Good team, good lecturer, good management be yours if u join SR&DT. There are many unforgetable moment on this program. Meet the island that need your hand, meet the wonderful people that give you brave and meet the great team that lead you to be strength. Try it !!! |
Parasina Dewandari - Urban and Regional Planning 2012 SIDI, My Whole New Stage “By joining this program, I got so much benefit. I am so grateful; I got to know how to do a better research and local people problems of living on remote Island. I had mentored by professional and they keep supporting on my research. This awesome program brings us to the next level on way of thinking; it is also improve our skill on holding a project. I felt great atmosphere since first time I joined the team. I had such a friendly and solid team, we overcome the problem we met and build a strong relationship within the team.” |
Poteran Team
Muhammad Yasir - Marine Transportation 2010 (Poteran team leader) Being a part of the SR&DT is a pride and accomplishment. Conduct a visit to a small island with variety of missions to seek solutions of problems faced by the people. Despite the wide range of disciplines, SR&DT is a vassel that brings together the diversity. |
Arida Wahyu Barselia - Biology 2012 SR&DT of SIDI gave a valuable chance for me to improve our study can be applied for the development small island. This program have made us to understand about small island’s potential, especially Poteran Island and Maratua Island. Besides, the relationship ITS and Wismar Germany for developing this island would help Indonesia development and increase small island potential. Actually, this program integrated some discipline study and made us have a good planning, and integrated development program can be implement. I have been joined in Poteran Island program. I got experience about Poteran condition, abundant natural resource, especially Moringa oleifera. Moreover, I learned how to analysis about the problem in Island, how to improve it, and the significant solution for this program. Hopefully, this program can be take a part for Indonesia’s development and can be implemented in another island. |
Elvian Haning P. - Biology 2011 It was definitely an amazing experience I’ve had in my life. I got a lot of useful knowledge, unforgettable memories, and new friends. I had the opportunity to improve my skills. It was very helpful to learn about project management, especially for the development of small island in Indonesia. Many thanks to the committees and every team member. |
Hanum Laila Rizkia - Biology 2011 SIDI... It was amazing program. I felt great to be member of this team. This program gave me useful knowledge, new experience, new friends, and touch me how to communicating with other people, local people, or foreign people. Trough this program, I got knowledge about cooperation. I hope this program will be held continuously because there are many small island need to increase in natural resource or another sectors. |
Yunita Permanasari - Biology 2011 In my opinion, SIDI is a very positive activity because it can really help develop the island that does have the potential. In addition, this activity is the first step towards the development program of the other islands in Indonesia. |
