Overview
SR&DT program is granted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under its University-Business-Partnerships program between higher education institutions and business partners in Germany and in developing countries.
Sustainability of this SR&DT program is viewed important, to be reached by strengthening the industrial network, building an effective organization, maintaining interdisciplinary character of the real world and providing a feedback to the education.
The program was started by exploring and fact-finding mission to both islands, to collect its potentials and challenges. All partners from the government, industry and university are involved from the very beginning. They provide insights on the issues of the islands and jointly develop the priorities of activities. So, the research topics must come from or in line with the views of partners, government and industry.
Research & developemnt activities are conducted by students from ITS and Wismar Univeristy of Applied Sciences. They are supervised both by the university and their industry and givernment partners.
For each island, some 5-7 students from various disciplines are formed as a team to address issues of respective islands. They obtain preparatory team building program, by taking an array of seminar on creativity, entrepreunership and project management. The field research on the islands take 3-5 days. The progress of the students' research is monitored regularly. They are supervised by the lecturers of both universities and their partners. The first batch students shall present their final results, by end of October 2014.
